Biography
Yuri Marchese was born in Vitória (ES), Brazil, and lived for seventeen years in Londrina, Paraná. He holds a Master’s degree in Music Education from the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (2025), under the guidance of João Pedro Duarte, a Master’s degree in Music from the University of Aveiro (2016), under the supervision of Paulo Vaz de Carvalho, and a Bachelor’s degree in Music from the State University of Londrina (2010), where he studied guitar with Inácio Rabaioli and Natanael Fonseca. He completed the Doctoral Program at the University of Évora, studying with Dejan Ivanović (2021). Between 2012 and 2014, he studied privately with Fábio Zanon in São Paulo.
He made his international tour debut at the age of 22 and, since 2011, has performed in major cities across Brazil, Portugal, Spain, and the Czech Republic. He has participated in various international festivals and concert series, including Música no Museu (Rio de Janeiro), Festival de Música de Londrina, Série Palcos Musicais (Londrina), Temporada Ouro Verde (Londrina, with OSUEL), Young Prag Festival (Czech Republic), Festival Ponto de Guitarra (Vila Real), Irmão Violão (Aveiro, Porto, and Vila Real), Festival Zêzere Arts, and Templo da Música (Tomar).
As a soloist, he has received numerous awards, including 1st place at the IX Jovens Músicos – Música no Museu Competition (Rio de Janeiro, 2017), 1st place at the International Guitar Competition of Leiria (Portugal, 2017), 1st place at the VII FITO Competition (São Paulo, 2012), 2nd place at the X Villa-Lobos National Competition (Vitória, Brazil, 2013), and 2nd place at the I Terras de Santo Estevão Competition (Portugal, 2015), among others. From 2010 to 2014, he was a scholarship student at the Campos do Jordão International Winter Festival (São Paulo), where he took masterclasses with Zoran Dukić, Fábio Zanon, Michael Lewin, José Antonio Escobar, Eduardo Fernandez, João Luiz Rezende, and Maria Livia São Marcos.
Since 2007, he has worked as a classical guitar teacher, focusing primarily on private instruction, mentoring some of the most promising young guitarists in Londrina, PR. In Portugal, he has taught at conservatories such as Conservatório David de Souza in Figueira da Foz (2016), Escola de Música Nossa Senhora do Cabo in Linda-a-Velha (2020-2022), and Conservatório de Sintra (2022-2023).
Beyond teaching and performing, he has been actively involved in concert production, promoting classical guitar in Londrina through series such as the second edition of Momento do Violão (2012), the Violão na Capela series (2013), and several solo and chamber recitals at the AML Theater and the Londrina Music Conservatory. In collaboration with the company Açofer and luthier Nilson de Mari, he produced the Açofer Musical series (2019), featuring performances by local guitarists, including some of his most outstanding students. In Portugal, he organized the fourth edition of the Irmão Violão series (2016), which featured concerts by Brazilian postgraduate guitar students from the University of Aveiro.
Currently, he resides in Lisbon, where he teaches at the International Sharing School (Oeiras) and serves as the pedagogical coordinator of the school’s Music Academy. In 2025, he will embark on a concert tour across Portugal and Brazil with the Lopes-Graça Quartet, a renowned Portuguese chamber music ensemble.
